If you are planning to do a Whole30 knowing where to start can be overwhelming. Today, I’m sharing tips and tricks on how we are prepping for Whole30!
Nathan and I are excited to be gearing up for another round of Whole30! Both of us had great results last year and kept up the life style pretty well over the following months. Then I got pregnant and the wheels fell off. We are just a few days away from the start of our January Whole30 so today I thought I would share how we are prepping for our next round!
Doing Research
Full disclosure, I did not read the official Whole30 book before jumping in the first time but got a copy in the middle of the month and realized what a truly great resource it is! Yes, you can get the basic information many places around the web but the book answers all of your questions and a lot more. For this round, I’ve been researching information on how to successfully complete a Whole30 while breastfeeding our daughter. She is my #1 priority and focus right now! With guidelines from the book and with help from blog posts like this and this I feel confident that I will be able to complete this round of Whole30 without effecting my milk supply. Read all you can and when in doubt, Google! Google was my bestie during our first round.
Detoxing From Regular Coffee Creamer
This may sound crazy to some of you but giving up my morning cup (and my mid-morning and afternoon cup…) of coffee just the way I liked it (using this creamer) was not something I was ready to do during our first round. I even wrote an Instagram post confessing I actually didn’t give it up the first few days. Whoops. Finally, I gave up my last vice and made the switch to this approved creamer. I also really like this one! I’ve been really indulgent the last few months with my coffee using allll the delicious, sugary, holiday creamers so I knew I needed to start early on this one or I would really hate my life come Whole30 time!
Clearing Out the Pantry
Again, advice I did not heed during our first Whole30 and regretted it! Take out all the unapproved items you can out of your fridge/pantry and throw away/hide them for the next 30 days! There most likely WILL come a point when you will want to quit and eat an entire box of salted caramel chocolates. (Or maybe that was just me…) Denying those cravings will be easier if there aren’t any chocolates next to your approved, yet tragically bland nuts.
Pinning Recipes & Meal Planning
Meal planning is SO key when you are prepping for a Whole30! Falling back on eating at a restaurant because you don’t know what’s for dinner is not really an option because you’ll be hard pressed to find anything compliant. Search “whole30” on Pinterest then pin anything and everything that sounds good! Over plan. I write out a plan for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day during Whole30 when most weeks I just wing it. I shared a week’s meal plan with links to all the recipes in this post. You can also find my Whole30 Pinterest board with tons of ideas and recipes we love here. I also have several Whole30 approved recipes right here on the blog! You can find all of those here.
Stocking Up On Certain Items
If you’ve been around the blog for five minutes you know my love for Aldi runs deep. That’s where we do the majority of our grocery shopping! However, there are a few things that I stock up on while we are prepping for Whole30 that I can’t get there. I plan on making a run to our Fresh Tyme before hand to stock up on vanilla Nut Pods, canned coconut milk, this approved ranch dressing, paleo mayo, light tasting olive oil, Epic bars, no sugar added bacon, coconut aminos, plantain chips, and almond flour. You can also buy almost all of these items on Amazon or Thrive Market if you have a subscription!
Finding an Accountability Partner
If I had to pick the most important thing on this list finding someone to keep you accountable during your Whole30 would be it! There is no way I could keep this up 100% if Nathan wasn’t on board with it. It would be way too tempting to cheat. If your significant other isn’t on board or you are single find a friend who is also doing Whole30 or even a Facebook support group to join. Or do all three! Having support around you is going to be so essential for your success.
I hope you find these tips helpful as you are prepping for Whole30! If you have any other suggestions make sure you leave them in the comments!
